ChildSafe South Africa is honoured to participate in the upcoming Children and Adolescent Sector Consultation on October 17-18, 2024, at the Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Centre. This significant event, organised by The Presidency and the Department of Social Development, aims to address critical issues affecting children and adolescents in South Africa. Our Executive Director, Zaitoon Rabaney, will be attending to contribute to the discussions and share insights on child safety and wellbeing.
The Children and Adolescent Sector Consultation is a two-day event focused on positioning child rights and wellbeing in the national agenda. It brings together key stakeholders, including government officials, NGOs, and child rights advocates, to deliberate on strategies and frameworks that will shape the future of our nation’s children.
As a leading organisation dedicated to child safety, ChildSafe South Africa will actively participate in the discussions, sharing our expertise and advocating for effective policies and practices. Our Executive Director, Zaitoon Rabaney, will engage with other leaders to ensure that child safety remains a top priority.
The consultation will feature a series of important sessions over the two days. Day 1 will include welcome and opening remarks from prominent speakers such as Mr. Rory Gallocher, Chief Operations Officer in The Presidency and Chairperson of the Technical Task Team, and Mr. Peter Netshipale, Acting Director General of the Department of Social Development. Panel presentations will discuss the National Strategic Action Plan for Children (NSAAC) and key priorities for child wellbeing, with contributions from Dr. Roseline September, Deputy CEO of DGMT, and Dr. Granville Whittle, Deputy Director General of the Department of Basic Education. Insights from UNICEF will be provided by Ms. Christine Muhigana, UNICEF Country Representative. Day 2 will focus on commissions and working groups addressing strategic priorities, catalytic interventions, and strengthening institutional arrangements, with facilitators like Ms. Janet Du Preez, Technical Support Lead at APAC. The event will conclude with facilitated sessions to compile feedback and finalize resolutions.
The Children and Adolescent Sector Consultation is a pivotal event for shaping the future of child rights and wellbeing in South Africa. ChildSafe South Africa is proud to be part of this important initiative, and we look forward to contributing to meaningful change.
