ChildSafe is dedicated to promoting the safety and well-being of children in ECD (Early Childhood Development) facilities. As part of our ongoing efforts, we offer a two-day ECD Safety Module Training Workshop for ECD Practitioners. This comprehensive workshop is aimed to equip attendees with valuable knowledge and practical strategies to create safer environments for children. The two-day Early Childhood Development Safety Module Training Workshop has proven to be an enlightening and empowering experience . Through focused sessions on accident prevention, growth and development strategies, and pediatric first aid, participants acquire valuable knowledge and practical skills to enhance child safety in ECD facilities.
Day 1: Ensuring Safe Environments
The training commences with a thought-provoking discussion on the importance of safety in ECD facilities. Participants learn about the various risks that children may encounter and gain insights on accident prevention. Recognising that growth and development play a vital role in preventing injuries, attendees explored strategies to mitigate potential hazards and create safe surroundings for children.
One exciting focus of the training workshop is the topic of poisons. Dr. Kate Balme, a Medical Officer from the Poisons Information Centre, based at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Rondebosch, Cape Town, facilitates an engaging session on poisons and ingestions. Her expertise sheds light on the risks posed by different substances and offered practical advice on prevention and management. Dr. Kate Balme share her top tips for suspected ingestion of poison which serves as a valuable resource, empowering individuals with the knowledge required to respond swiftly and effectively in such situations.
Day 2: Empowering Participants with Pediatric First Aid Skills
The second day of the workshop focuses on providing participants with essential pediatric first aid skills. Understanding the critical importance of timely intervention during emergencies, this session equippes attendees with the necessary knowledge and techniques to respond effectively to various medical situations commonly encountered in ECD settings.
Throughout the training, participants actively engage in hands-on training exercises that simulated real-life scenarios. Instructors demonstrated first aid techniques, including CPR, choking management, and wound care. By actively participating in these practical sessions, attendees gain confidence and practical skills that can potentially save lives in emergency situations.
