Project Overview
The Walking Safely to School project is a two-year endeavor that builds upon ChildSafe’s successful safety programs implemented in Western Cape, Khayelitsha, Delft, and Belhar. Rooted in the Safe System Approach, this multi-stakeholder project focuses on preventing child pedestrian injuries.
Key Components
- Infrastructure Modifications: ChildSafe collaborates closely with City of Tshwane engineers to enhance road infrastructure around 10 project schools. Key features include setting speed limits at 30 km/h within school zones to protect young pedestrians.
- Education and Awareness: Children, teachers, and the community receive targeted road safety training and education. Informed pedestrians make safer choices.
- Advocacy Campaign: The Automobile Association of South Africa (AASA) leads a public relations and advocacy campaign, emphasizing child pedestrian safety.
